Road Trip Day 6 (Part1): Graceland
I realized day 6 was a pretty action-packed day, so I’ll divide the day into two parts – hopefully for ease-of-reading.

In short – Graceland was way cooler than I thought it would be.
Why? Well, I’ll get to that in a moment …
We woke up in the morning and headed over to Graceland. It turned out the hours listed on the website were different from the ACTUAL hours. So we had some time to kill. Thankfully there was a Krispy Kreme across the road to save the day. Mmmmmmm … and the red light was ON!
After downing a dozen Original Glazed and gulping down a cup of coffee we went and had the truck washed AGAIN. (One guess who’s idea that was … heheheh.)
By then it was about time for Graceland to open.
Actually, the “Elvis Exhibits” and all the touristy stuff is across the street from Graceland. To be honest, I was a bit nervous that they had turned Elvis into “Mickey Mouse” and Graceland into “Disney World”. Thankfully that was not the case – with Graceland itself.
After we bought our tickets (whose prices rival a Disney ticket) we headed to the tour buses, which would take us across the street to Graceland itself.

View of Graceland as we stand in line to board the tour bus.

They gave us personal headsets for our tour of the Graceland mansion.

The tour bus arrives.

Getting excited. Heading up Elvis’ driveway.

We arrive and disembark. They start off with a brief introduction to the history of the home at the front door before you enter.

Elvis bought the home plus 13.2 acres for about $100,000.00.
It took me a couple of rooms before I could figure out how to turn the flash off my camera so I missed some pretty cool rooms. (Flash bulbs are not allowed.)

Got my flash turned off in time to get a pic of the billiard room.

Dad lounging in the funky green carpet covered hallway.

Jungle room. Kind of a big living room. Apparently they even recorded an album in this room.

View of the back yard right after we walk out the back door. It is winter so the grass is brown and the trees are leafless. It looks like it would be so beautiful in the summer. That is his racquetball court and gym in the upper right.

Lisa Marie’s swingset.

View of the back of Graceland from Elvis’ office building.

The office that Elvis worked in. He was interviewed here when he returned from the military. The interview is playing on that small TV in the background.

Elvis’ gun range.

Elvis had a trophy room where he housed all his awards. This has been spruced up into an awards museum. This entire hallway is lined with his gold and platinum records.

Their pool.

Elvis’ meditation garden. He had this built as a place he could retreat to and get some peace and quiet. Elvis is also buried here.

We waited for the bus to take us back to the touristy side of the road – but not before taking one last picture in front of Elvis’ house.

Next we were on to Elvis’ car museum.

And then on to his airplanes:

24 Karat Gold sink in the plane bathroom.

All seatbelt buckles 24-karat gold.

Notice the seatbelt across the bed? Hmmmm. The display says the seatbelt was due to FAA regulations. I say, “Yeah, that’s what I would say too.”

Elvis’ personal bathroom and salon in the back of the plane.
After that we hit the gift shops. We got some T-shirts for people and I managed to grab a set of Elvis glasses:

Bingo! Another “thing I always wanted to do” checked off my list.
Now we’re on to Nashville … read part 2 of Day 6
