Sarah Kate goes to college …

Tate

Amanda has been out of town so me and the girls pretty much played all weekend. On Saturday we played school.

I was the principal.

Every now and then I would get a call from the teacher (Sarah Kate) requesting help with some unruly invisible students. My role was to come in, take them out of the class while telling the class I would be feeding offending children to my personal dragons. That seemed to get a great response.

Immediately the number of bad kids in Sarah Kate’s class increased exponentially.

On Sunday we did some shopping. Before we left I told the girls they could pick where we eat. Immediately Abby yelled “Asheville Pizza! I have five dollars to spend on games!”

We usually give them a little bit of money for games and if they want to play more they have to bring their own.

Sarah Kate didn’t seem that excited. She said flatly, “I don’t want to go to Asheville Pizza.”

“What?” I asked. “You never say no to Asheville Pizza. Is everything okay?”

She scrunched up her face and explained, “Well, whenever I go to Asheville Pizza I spend way too much of my own money. I have $44.00 saved up and I really want to go to the bank and open my college fund.

“Really?” I asked. Reeling from what I had just heard, the expression on my face a blatant combination of proud and perplexed.

I turned to Abby and could see the panic in her face. Yes, panic as she contemplated the possibility we may NOT be going to Asheville Pizza after all. That just would not do.

Her eyes darted back and forth between me and her sister. Finally she blurted out, “I have $5 Sarah Kate, and I will split it with you!”

Sarah Kate smiled, “Okay, Asheville Pizza sounds good to me.”

Crisis averted. And free games for Sarah Kate.

OMG! That is so cute. Haley is my more generous one too. I could totally see this conversation going on between my kids.

I like the way Sarah Kate is thinking…. Education first… That’s my girl!

That reminds me that I need to start contributing to Sarah Kate’s “College Fund” too. You can’t believe how much I have hoped to be able to do just that.
