As promised, here are some pics from hiking this past weekend. We went up and over the Blue Ridge Parkway and came down on the other side of Pisgah Forest and stopped briefly at Looking Glass Falls. After that we took a little hike to a place called Moore’s Cove Falls – which is kinda cool because the falls flow over a ledge and you can walk around in the cavern behind the water.

Last weekend we visited the lower falls. This weekend we went to the upper falls. It was farther upstream so the paucity of water was much less – yet still beautiful.

The weather was a little cooler initially. There were icicles everywhere but the sun was passing over the top of us and quickly began melting them away.

The falls were really pretty, but I don’t think these pictures truly capture it. The water volume was much less, but it meant there were more rocks for us to climb.

It was time for lunch. We found a large flat rock to sit on. The river ran under us while we ate. Pretty cool.

Scrappy ate some turkey scraps (no pun intended). We also celebrated with a thermos of piping hot cocoa. Scrappy tried walking around on the rocks but there were sheets of ice on the rocks. Just as I was taking the next picture (below) he began sliding down the river behind me and the girls started freaking out. That is why their mouths are dropped open and Abby looks so concerned.
